About 3 thousand people holding placards in their hands - not large ships - marched through the streets of the city that is a site of U's world heritage NESTO.
Critics say that large cruise ships pose a danger to preserving the city in lagoons, polluting its waters, and damaging sea beauty.
The waves created in the canal, they say, damage the foundations of the city that regularly suffers from floods.
Some have even complained that they damage the beauty of Venice's historic sites by bringing in many tourists.
The ministers said the accident proved the need for a stop-off and that they are working on solving the problem, the TCH broadcast.
The government banned ships weighing more than 96 thousand tonnes to enter Giudecca channel in 2013, but legislation was later withdrawn.
In 2017, it was announced that larger ships would leave the historic centre, but plans are expected to take four years to enter into force.
