From tomorrow, new 100 and 200 euro bills are in circulation

“They are more compact and practical to use, their colors are brighter and are safer”, guarantees Laure Lalowette, bank-making expert near the ECB.
At first glance, these new notes are not much different from older models except size.
The new bills have the same length as the old ones, but they have the height of the 50-euro bill.
“Pressures from 50, 100 and 200 euros have the same height and are easier to control as and can be read more efficiently from” machines, guarantees ECB in a communiqué.
Their new size will suit portfolios even better and have a longer life, as there will be less opportunity to be torn from the usage of”, the European Central Bank added.
