US President Donald Trump has again launched a battle to build a wall on the border with Mexico, preparing a new budget that will require $8.6 billion for the project and a sharp cut in expenses for other local programmes.
Budget proposals, such as what Trump should publish later today, are often seen as the starting point of negotiations, according to the AP.
Trump promised to build a wall to fight illegal immigration and trafficking of human beings and narcotics.
The Democrats, who oppose the construction of the wall, consider it unnecessary and immoral, so there is little chance that Trump's request will pass into Congress, Reuters writes.
If Congress is to approve it, this requirement could help Trump strengthen its arguments about border safety in the upcoming race for the 2020 presidential elections.
