Eliot Engel, the busy Democrat from New York is taking one of the most partisan roles in Congress: Donald Trump's investigators.

As the new head of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Engel has vowed to examine the president's ties with Russia, approach to North Korea, and response following the murder of Saudi journalist to reside in the US, Jamal Khahoggit to mention only a few. He even restored a dedicated subcommittee to Trump.

When it speaks of this politically charged job, however, Engel has little of the rhetorical zeal that shows voters who want the president's accusation and who put the Engel party at the head of the House, Periscope follows.

If he's done something wrong, he should be worried. If he didn't do anything wrong, he must not be worried at all,” Engel told Trump in an interview for Polyticon. My main goal is not to get the president. My main goal is to capture the truth. ”

Engel's role will take even more leadership after the retirement of Republican senator Bob Corker, a vocal critic of Trump. Corker's successor as leader, Republican Jim Rich from Idaho, prefers to keep private the differences he has with Trumpi, and told Polyticos, conveys Periscope, that he will try to focus the committee's work on issues such as increasing the power of China.

Even without Democrats at the helm, Trump was facing strong blows from both sides, Republicans and Democrats in Congress on foreign affairs issues. And now, with the House of Foreign Affairs Committee led by Democrat Eliot Engel, which has a more investigative approach, means Trump will face an even more aggressive approach to his powers. In Engel's opinion, Congress for decades has given the executive branch too much power in foreign politics.

It is our duty to investigate... and restore the jurisdiction of Congress,”, he said.

The Committee's first hearings will examine highly sensitive issues: U.S. policy on the Arabian Peninsula. This will include the war in Yemen, where the United States is supporting Saudi Arabia in a war against Iranian-backed rebels who have killed thousands and left millions more on the brink of starvation.

There are many people who are concerned about our guilt in the deaths of innocent civilians, including children, in the Yemen war,” added Engel. He further said that although he respects Saudi Arabia's desire to oppose Iran, “n should be very careful when our weapon kills innocent civilians. ”

The murder of a Washington Post thinker by Saudi Arabia, Jamal Khashoggi, is also possible to mention. Trump has refused to impose sanctions on Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, despite reports linking him to Trump's son-in-law Jared Kouchner with the murder.

The republican president has without success tried to cut the department's budget by a current third, and his administration has failed to meet many of its top positions. Administration officials have also been charged with the isolation and punishment of foreign and civil service officials who were accused of distrust of Trump.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has agreed to appear before this committee to address issues involving his department, but it is not clear when that will happen.

Another priority issue on Engel's list: US policy towards North Korea. Trump's decision to meet Korean dictator Kim Jong Un in June of last year was not well seen by Enely, who said it is not at all “cheerful” that North Korea is restoring its nuclear programme. Trump plans to hold another summit with Kim at the end of this month.

And of course, there is Russia, the subject that nearly every committee wants to consider. Engel's stake in the Russian piten is likely to include an investigation into whether the president tried to hide details from his meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin. But the Engel panel may not go so far on this subject as the Intelligence Committee, which is expected to take leadership on more sensitive issues of whether Trump's campaign co-ordinated with Russia the election intervention efforts.

Engel, despite the inevitable criticism expected to address the president, hopes to win bipartisan credentials. The Republican side on Engel's committee is Mike McCaul, a vocal representative from Texas who has praised Trump as a powerful “leader and foreign policy placing”. Engele said McCauley had good reports.

Engel has a strong relationship with the other Republic of Foreign Affairs, Ed Royce from California.

In the Senate, the Republican-led Foreign Relations Committee is expected to be a lower body. Rich, as its leader, is moving Corker, one of the few Republicans who has regularly crashed into public with Trump. He even once implied that the current president could lead the United States towards World War III.

Richshi is not expected to make any investigation into the Trump administration. In an interview, Rich has indicated that he wants to focus on more sensitive issues beyond Russia.

The former US presidential candidate in the 2012 elections, Mitt Romney, agrees. /Periscopi
