The US Embassy through a media report about the visit the US Government Millennium Challenge Corporation delegation made last week in Kosovo, stresses that “Kosovo must continue to show progress against corruption in order to receive financing and MCC assistance.
A delegation from the US Government's Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) last week has visited Kosovo to discuss the potential for using an MCC programme to reduce poverty and promote economic growth here. The MCC Board of Directors has selected Kosovo as suitable for a compact MCC programme last December. Kosovo must continue to show progress against corruption in order to receive this financing and assistance.
The delegation, led by the department's deputy head of congressional affairs and public relations, Karen Sessions, met with senior Kosovo Government officials and with leaders from the private sector. They discussed the MCC's approach to fighting poverty through economic growth. One factor containing economic growth is corruption over which Kosovo's global ranking is low. Kosovo needs to be re-elected by the MCC Board of Directors every year of compact development, and will be assessed through the MCC paper that contains an assessment of efforts to reduce corruption.
Currently, the MCC is implementing Kosovo's small grant threshold programme, which supports investments in energy efficiency and women's employment in the energy sector, as well as increased public data on justice, the environment, and the workforce.
On February 20th, 2019 deputy head Sessions helped launch the “Grath project in Energy”, which is part of the MCC Prague Programme for Kosovo. This project supports the possibilities for female participation as employed and entrepreneurial in this sector as it increases women's economic opportunities and supports a stock market programme. Currently implemented by the Kosovo Millennium Fund and will continue until 2021, the US Embassy's announcement in Pristina said regarding the MCC delegation's visit to Kosovo.
