Border police Milutin Lekovic, 41, died of injuries sustained at around 0200 in Igalo. He underwent surgery, where doctors spent hours trying to save his life.
About 2:45 p.m. on Sava Ilic Street in Igalo, during the act of apprehending three people who had no personal documents, one of the armed men fired a police officer. The attackers, two men and one woman fled in an unknown direction after the “incident, the Police Directorate said.
Lekovic and his colleague had previously arrested three Kosovo citizens because they did not possess ID documents.
Following the officer's injuries, Kosovo citizens fled, but were arrested in Sutorinska Polje around 5:00.
