The current president, Klaus Iohannis and former prime minister, Viorica Dancila, will face a run-off on 24 November.
Post-election polls have shown that Iohannis, 60, has obviously won most of the vote, with 38,2 %, but not more than half of it to ensure a full victory. “Dacica, 55, dismissed from office last month amid corruption issues that disbanded her Social Democratic Party (PSD), was expected to have a drop of up to 22%. Iohannis stated that “rumuns have never voted against The PSD in such a comprehensive and open way”, describing it as a” a big step before”. He also called on voters to participate in the second round, eventually to evacuate the PSD.
