Former President Topi disappointed with foreign policy

Invited to the news studio at Nighttime, Topi said Prime Minister Rama should not go to France just for a visit to the Elysee Palace, but foreign policy should be productive.

“I consider it unacceptable that Albania's foreign policy, or the prime minister's policy should not be merely to consume a visit to Elisee to demonstrate that I am expected by the French president. Foreign policy absolutely needs a wise, efficient and productive policy. If he is surrounded by illusion images, which I am a friend to the French president, and in the end comes a result that doesn't produce anything, produces a disappointment”, Topi said.

It is unacceptable, Topi said, so that Albania will not be visited by France's foreign minister.

It's the prime minister's job to have his meetings with France's president to tell him that in foreign policy it doesn't matter whether you're a big or a small country. There are two countries that are in Europe, are in NATO, and it is unacceptable not to be asked by Albania's prime minister, whom France's foreign minister should at least visit. This has created a timely warning for those who know politics”, he said.

The sea deal with Greece, Topi said, has a phase when the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has negotiating teams that not necessarily should come to the public because they are considered technical. The “problem has been very specific because when official negotiations begin, not those related to technical talks by ministry officials, but when there should be a negotiating team, in an absolute way that should be taken over by the president, which was not taken. That would bring about from the moment a decision by parliament was made, there would certainly be a consistent reaction on my part because it was broken. It was not necessary because a group of MPs sent him to a constitutional court that declared him to a long decision and explanation why this agreement could not stand”, Topi said.

Regarding the Agreement with Greece, he said that since the Constitutional Court has overturned it, it has fallen into its spirit, in judicial terms and has enabled the current government to renegotiate. What I claim today, without wanting to be critical, there is no transparency. It is necessary to negotiate because between Albania and Greece, it is imperative that the lines of demitation, both water and territory be determined. But step by step, they should not go out to tell people where you are, but the structures that deal with monitoring that the commission and parliament make to the government”.
