French news agency AFP has said Ghana has drawn hasty “recognition of Kosovo's independence, which was supported by Serbia, which opposes Kosovo citizenship.
The Ghana government has decided to withdraw recognition of Kosovo as an independent state”, the Ghana government said Tuesday AFP to the country's deputy foreign minister, Charles Owiredu.
He said the reasons for this decision have been communicated to Serbia in a letter.
The decision to recognise Kosovo turned out to be hasty”, written on paper about recognition occurring in 2012.
“Gana has taken into account the dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo, aimed at resolving the issue of the latter's demand to be known as independent and sovereign entities and supporting the ongoing process to end the” issue, Time.net says further on paper.
This announcement could impede the continuation of dialogue between the two countries, which has been frozen for more than a year.
The Ghanaic ministry's statement says Kosovo's declared unilateral independence was “in opposition to Security Council Resolution 1244, this reference to the 1999 resolution that put the country under international protectorate.
The resolution gave Kosovo <x0 sub-static autonomy” within Yugoslavia, part of which was then Serbia, and does not mention full independence.
The Serbian Foreign Ministry through a statement praised Ghana's “key decision” and said it has become the 16th <x2nd> UN member who has drawn recognition of Kosovo”.
Meanwhile, the Kosovo Foreign Ministry has called this “the continuation of a dirty” campaign on the part of Serbia.
