One of the main leaders of the protesters “recall” is placed in handcuffs, on the charge of organising an unauthorized rally.
According to the French media, it's Eric Druet. It was banned Wednesday evening, as it addressed “Champs Elysees”, which reportedly was hosting a group of demonstrators.
Demonstrators told police that they had only gathered to light candles for people injured in protests or killed in automobile accidents during the 6-week riots, which began in November as a revolt against the fuel tax. But despite this evidence, Druet is currently facing a trial process for maintaining a D-class weapon after being found a wooden stick. Druet's lawyer named his arrest “unjustified and totally arbitrary”.
But according to French media, Druet will now turn into a kind of martyr and will bring strength to the drag of the collectors.
Protesters, who have been named after their phosphorent vests, have regularly held demonstrations under the fuel tax since November 17th that later turned into a movement against President Emmanuel Macron and his policies, considered favourable to the rich.
During their held protests, 30 people have been injured and 101 have been arrested.
Local officials appear to have taken a tougher stance in efforts to eliminate demonstrations, but Eric Druet's arrest has caused the French government to be accused of provoking the situation.
