The Fund for Humanitarian Law has published a file that contains data on the violence exercised against Croats of the autonomous province of Vojvodina from 1991-1995, largely by Serb radicals, led by Serbian Radical Party leader (SRS), Vojislav Seshel.
The file, published by the FDH, says that a threat and pressure campaign against Croatian civilians was held on the territory of the autonomous province of Vojvodina, with the aim of forcing them to flee their homes, as well as from Serbia.
THE campaign, which changed in intensity and peaked at its peak in the second part of 1991, from spring to autumn 1992 and in the summer of 1995, resulted in the expulsion of several dozen thousands of Croats from Vojvodina.
“Dukes against Croats in Vojvodina included attacks on their private property and religious buildings, as well as threats, physical attacks and murder. Vojislav Shesheli and his Serbian Radical Party (SRS) were the main attorneys and inspirers of the threat campaign and pressure on the Croatian population in Vojvodina. The persecution of Croatian families was carried out under pressure from various groups near the SRS, composed of local populations, a militant part of Serb refugees from Croatia, and by members of voluntary units from Serbia who had participated in the wars in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina”, Koha.net reports and broadcast Periskopi.
Furthermore, the FHD report says that this campaign of intimidation took place with the silent awareness and approval of the political structures of the Republic of Serbia.
“Witnesses presented in this file show that in some cases of violence against Croats, even persons from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) of the Republic of Serbia have participated. In addition, in the violent expulsion of Vojvodina Croats, State Security Department (RDB) The MUP of the Republic of Serbia has played a significant role”, the FDH further says in the report.
In the period between two population registration processes, in 1991 and 2002, the number of Croatians and other non-Serb populations on Vojvodina's territory had dropped sharply, according to the FDH.
The number of Croats was down to 39 of the 45 municipalities in Vojvodina; and throughout the entire territory of Vojvodina, the number of Croats from 18,262, responsible for 24.41%”, the Fund's Humanitary Law report noted.
In this file, evidence has been presented of events in certain municipalities of Vojvodina (Romania, Schidi, Stara Pova, Igna, Petrovaradin and Appathin), showing how powerful pressure has been on Croats to emigrate, and where ethnic picture has mostly been changed.
The file, according to the FDH, is based on evidence of witnesses and families of victims being given to the Fund for International Law, RDB documents, court decisions in Serbia, and on documents presented before the International War Crimes Tribunal in the former Yugoslavia, as well as media reports, Koha.net reports. /Periscopi
