The explosive instrument was mounted two days before the Kpot community celebrated Christmas, a religious event celebrated by many Christians in Egypt.
This community, which makes up 10 percent of Egypt's population, has long been complaining about discrimination.
They are often attacked by Islamic militants who view the Copt community as unreligious.
