What if Macedonian Albanians also seek to join Kosovo? Thaci answers

Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, under his shift to inform the leaders of countries in the region of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, has today met with Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev.

At the media conference, Thaci has been asked that, after his idea of joining the Presevo Valley, as territorial integrity in Kosovo, what happens if even Macedonia's Albanians would ask for such a thing, Thaci has said that it must be understood that with Serbia it is a more specific issue.

“Everyone knows that without a dialogue with Serbia we cannot reach peaceful agreements. The other way is unacceptable. The other way is regrance. The EU has opened the doors for us as Western Balkan countries. But, the EU does not accept within its own reach, countries with open problems. We have already begun to discuss, negotiations will intensify in the future between Kosovo and Serbia. Such an agreement could be postponed, but there will be great costs -- the agreement will be a controversial compromise within Kosovo and within Serbia, such as agreements, such as decisions made about countries in Greece, Macedonia. Kosovo definitely has to make demarcation of the 430km border between Kosovo and Serbia, and this process must be closed. The Kosovo agreement Serbia, if achieved, will be very difficult, but if achieved, will be of the European spirit, in full co-ordination with all neighbouring states and friends. Kosovo respects the territorial integration of every neighbouring state, but with Serbia it is a specific issue. In this direction, we will have a very complex process, there will be your easy debate, easy rejections, but it's the way we should take both as leaders of Kosovo and Serbia”, Thaci said, writes Periscopi.

Otherwise, at this conference, Thaci has said Kosovo and Macedonia have excellent co-operation.

Kosovo and Macedonia have no open issues. They have excellent cooperation on all issues. Kosovo and Serbia are now in line to reach a peaceful historic agreement. You know it will not be easy to reach a final historic agreement, of peace, but it is the only way for Kosovo to move as quickly as possible towards the Euro-Atlantic perspective and that we definitely have the agreement will be very difficult to achieve. But we have no right to hold back our future and that of our children. I'll make an effort to reach agreement. I've been to Albania the day before and talked with President Meta as well as with President Djukanovic and now I've come to you, to ensure that every agreement will have the European soul. There will be no choice of lines on ethnic grounds. The agreement between Kosovo and Serbia will be an agreement you will feel comfortable, people will be supportive of this process.
