The United States' Ambassador to Belgrade, Kyle Scott, said the presidents of Serbia and Kosovo, Aleksandar Vuciq and Hashim Thaci, have the help of America in seeking a peaceful solution to disputes, but that the US relies on the awakeness of the European Union's foreign policy chief, Federica Moghrini.
Moghrin is the mediator of dialogue between Thaci and Vucinqi.
Scott, at a Belgrade conference on security challenges in the Western Balkans, said there are “critical issues in the region”: dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, the name dispute between Macedonia and Greece, and the maintenance of Bosnia and Herzegovina state.
The good news is that these problems are not inconsistent. We see courage in the leaders of Macedonia and Greece. Progress in Bosnia is not fast enough. In Belgrade we see new moves regarding the agreement on normalisation of relations (with Kosovo). We hope that the acceptable and sustainable solution will be found soon”, Scott said, broadcast the Balkan Radio Free Europe Service.
Thaci and Vucic have recently unveiled the idea of changing borders as a possible solution to disputes between the two countries. Moghrin has said that any solution is acceptable as long as it is in accordance with international law.
