Facebook leaders announced that they have erased the accounts of certain Myanmar military officials from the social network, as well as an account from the Instagram, thereby preventing the spread of <x0).
Facebook plays an important role in obtaining information for a population that has only been able to connect to the internet a short time ago, after half a century under military rule.
Because of the spread of the social network, Myanmar numbers 18 million Facebook profiles for a population of about 51 million. The military and radical Buddhist monks rely mainly on this platform to propaganda their ideologies.
The profiles of General Min Aung Hling, army head and 20 other individuals or organisations were blocked after international experts proved they committed or allowed serious human rights violations.
