In Kosovo, ten years after the proclamation of Independence, there is a health system with numerous problems. Patients complain of inadequate treatment, lack of medicines and other medical materials. And the institutions offering emergency services continue to be overloaded, and not rarely the patients receive adequate treatment.
A 19-year-old from the Drinas municipality, operated by blindness two years ago, addressed the University Clinical Centre in Kosovo this month. He had vomiting and sought medical services at Emergency Clinic.
According to family members, Drin Lek was given an injection and was then sent back by doctors, reasoning that it is not an emergency. Two days later, from his serious health condition, he again addressed Emergency in Pristina. The doctors took him for treatment, operated on him, but the 19-year-old died on the 8th of this month's CKUK.
Family members confess a horror experienced in the hospital corridors, where, according to them, they have not received adequate treatment, and that their son has not been able to survive since he has not received medical treatment in time.
Kosova Prees has talked to the late uncle one day after he passed away.
The “E have brought through the basement with a very simple bed, splashing, without a device. In 1015 minutes they've been waiting for the lift, from there about half an hour until they reached nalt in intensive care. 2,23 What's the problem, who takes the blame, with my hands I've put my brother's son into surgery, vomiting, now send the corpse home, what to say, our son went”, he explains.
On the other hand, he's been telling details since the late Drin Lek sought first medical help at QKUK.
My brother's son came to the hospital on Sunday, operated, two days dead. The reason, three days before I get into surgery, has come to an emergency he took infusion and he's been sent home, for the reason he's doing well, there's nothing critical. And the third day we brought it back, they took it, when they saw the serious situation, they put it into surgery, they don't have a day of what they're complaining about. At 10 o'clock in the evening, they sent him to surgery in abdominal surgery, sent him to the basement, not the daily, held him for two hours, two hours later informed us that the situation is very serious, but that the problem is that two years ago he had surgery from the blind intestine and that we found a back intestine there and that he didn't go two years of enough food, he claims.
According to Naser Lek, after the news that his nephew has passed away, he has been told that his body will be transferred to Legal Medicine but that this has not been done for more than six hours.
Procrastination has seriously damaged family members who were also dealing with burial procedures. The burial of 19-year-old was held in two days.
The behavior of medical personnel considers lawyer Chen Gashi terrible.
According to him, due to staff neglect, the death of the 19-year-old remains questionable.
The death source is suspicious that due to negligence, medical personnel, as much because of an operation the deceased had two years ago. Drini has been operated two years ago by blind intestines, there are no underlying problems, doctors have now found that there is a problem in the intestine. Why are the staff's actions suspicious, because they initially didn't admit it two days, then they don't send it to the fridge, but they leave it in the hallway, they don't call the police or the prosecutor until 8 o'clock. They die at 12 and they call it at 8 and a half. It's terrible the behavior and actions of medical personnel who have sworn for human service”, he says.
For the death of 19-year-old Baica village of Drenas, the institutions were not declared for days.
On this issue, Kosova Press has asked the health minister, Ismaili Bridge.
He claims that procedures have been initiated with the Health Inspectorate and that “whatever possible mismanagement will face rigorousity on the part of institutions”.
I expect the Inspectorate report, to see what's going on, what I can assure you, is bad news, and every time you talk about someone's death, it's a difficult position, I don't think a man likes to make a choice, at least for the honor of the deceased, but not to happen again, so I've asked the health inspector to look at all the documents and give us a recommendation and on the other side to see. That doesn't naturally prevent other institutions to be taken because the prosecution is willing and unwilling. I will apply what I have within my mandate and what is with a legal mandate”, Ismaili says. 5.1
Legal Medicine estimates are under way on this occasion, and results are expected in a few days' time.
Kosovas has also contacted the Association of Patients' Rights in Kosovo.
According to them, the University Clinical Centre and the Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo Doctors should under test freeze procedures regarding the 19-year-old death case.
This case and many other similar cases violate and violate patients' right to safety in the health system. University Clinical Hospital Service, I need to freeze a clinical audit of all cases that have died within hospitals, in order to investigate whether concessions have been made on them and thus increase the patient's safety rate during medical care under SKUK. Recently, there is an improvement in access to health in Kosovo by the Ministry of Health and all its subordinate institutions, but still remains far from a desirable standard. Health should become a national priority, increase the budget for it in order to improve the conditions of patient treatment, health workers, but also improve its largely damaged image!”, the association's response said.
And according to Kosovo Parliamentary Commission for Health MP Bekim Haxhiu, which is part of the 19-year-old Health Commission, the 19-year-old case is due to the failure of the health system.
A 19-year-old who has died because he hasn't been offered time to health care, and therefore we have his death. I have also asked the minister to react, not to be silent, because he has reacted on several other occasions, and in Drin Lek's case that is directly responsible for failing to operate the health system and responsible staff, so he has met the Ministry of Health himself and the minister to react because it is his responsibility that in such cases he reacts and takes measures, as in other cases, that is the result of failing to function of the health system because if the Lek family were to be in health services he would receive it, but a lack of health insurance that didn't work within a lot of his own system.
According to Haxhiu, the health system in Kosovo needs to be reformed.
He thinks he needs urgent Pristina hospital, since his absence is creating difficulties in the system.
The current situation at the University Clinical Centre is due to the failure of the health system, beginning with what is considered and should function in primary health system, family medicine, secondary care, regional hospitals, to the tescriar system, University Clinical Centre is overloaded for yet another fact because Pristina's region, still has to suffer in the absence of Pristina regional hospital, and these consequences, become overloaded, the University Clinical Centre and is impossible to get a large flow of patients with the appropriate university service, and when that's going on in the past, and what's going on, and what's going on in the plant, and what's going on with the drugs, and then that's the situation that's going on, he says.
It is not uncommonly reported on numerous irregularities in health institutions, and on patients who are “listed” corridors waiting for treatment they deserve.
The family of the late Drin Lek is just one of many Kosovo families who expressed resentment over offering health conditions in Kosovo.
19-year-old Drin Lek passed away midnight on August 8th. The same man had asked for help on QKUUK on the 4th and 5th, but he was not admitted to hospital until the 6th.
