US Ambassador Greg Delaway instructed local leaders to unite about dialogue with Serbia, so that a final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia can be reached soon.
In the traditional expectation of being organised tonight by the American Embassy to mark US independence, the ambassador urged local institutions to fight corruption in order to create a proper business environment.
“Step by step, Kosovo is building a multiethnic, progressive society with a powerful economy. Both in any democracy and your work must continue. Nelson Mandela once said after the rise of a large hill there are many more hills to climb. So even Kosovo has enough hills to climb up, is dialogue with Serbia... Kosovo must exceed differences with Serbia and reach a final agreement with it”, he said.
Delawie said that the Republic of Kosovo has long been burdened by the sign of astrex, which has been obstructing internationally, and, as he said, therefore “you are paying the price. That's why international businesses call you political service”.
This price is a challenge to Kosovo's economic development. Kosovo will not be part of NATO without achieving normalisation of relations with Serbia. The consequences of this are elusive. That's why Kosovo is marked by the star, asterix. There is nothing but to reach a final agreement with Serbia”, he said, and ordered local leaders that at issue should show real leadership to find a way to realise the goals and prepare the path towards the EU.
At the same time there is another hill for Kosovo to climb, fighting corruption. Public officials have the responsibility of putting state interests on, and this applies to all public officials, policemen, court officials, judges, prosecutors, to have a systematic fight against corruption, because it is essential for the goals Kosovo wants to carry out”, the US ambassador said.
He said that education, energy and security in Kosovo and a transparent business environment are essential where young people believe they can do something of themselves in their country.
