People's Party [of Publicity] The CHP] and three other opposition parties have reached agreement on an alliance in early parliamentary elections on 24 June, said a CHP party official, writes Periscopi.
The official told Reuters that the agreement between the CHP, the Iyi party, the Islamist party Saadet and the Democrat party will be officially announced at a press conference Thursday.
This will enable small parties to enter parliament through alliances, where 10% of the overall vote is needed, namely a higher threshold than in Kosovo where 5% is. This agreement creates a broad coalition against the ruling coalition of President Recep Tayip Erdogan, whose party has joined the MHP party.
Erdogan has won dozens of elections and has dominated Turkish politics since his party came to power in 2002. The elections will mark Turkey's transition from a parliamentary republic to that presidential one. /Periscopi
