In most Kosovo municipalities, there are one and more children who have been abandoned by their parents.
During the past year, 34 children have been abandoned, a number fortunately smaller in comparison with 2016, writes Schneta newspaper.
In the Gjakova municipality, parents have given up on children in three cases, in Gjilan and Istog of four, while in Pristina there are 5 children left without biological parents.
According to statistics from the Kosovo Statistics Agency, mostly abandoned children have in May and July.
The largest number of abandoned children are girls who dominate 56 percent of the total, and boys with 44 percent.
However, the good news for these children is that a number of them have come to family reunion.
Last year in Gjakova 4 children have gone to family reunion, five in Mitrovica, three in Prizren. A total of 23 children.
Meanwhile, 21 children have been adopted by other parents, 18 locals and 3 internationals. We remember that according to Social Centre data, international parents mostly adopt disabled children.
