The Turkish president has said his country urgently missed the transition to the executive presidency, reports Guardian, broadcast Periscopi.
Recep Tayip Erdogan has announced there will be elections on June 24th, more than a year earlier than planned.
Whoever is born will have extraordinary powers after last year's referendum that transformed Turkey into a presidential republic from that parliamentary one as it once was.
Erdogan said he made the decision after speaking to Nationalist Movement Party leader [Getty Images] MHP], Devlet Bahceli. Parliamentary and presidential elections were expected in November 2019.
Erdogan has made a formal alliance with the MHP to compete in the elections.
“Although the president and the government are working in agreement, old system diseases are hindering us in every step we are taking,” Erdogan said in a televised speech. /Periscopi
