The French president's office has declared that a disciplinary procedure has been launched that will deny Assad France's highest honours.
Bashar al-Assad received the highest rank of Honorary Legion by former French President Jacques Chirac during a ceremony at the Elysee Palace in 2001.
The move to lift that price comes days after France participated in the air strikes in Syria, aimed at several chemical weapons bases.
