Former US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson dismissed today from office, says he will return to private life, urging American diplomats worldwide to work on commitment to the oath they have taken under the Constitution. He says the “world needs self-convincing leaders as the American leadership begins with diplomacy”.
Tillerson says he received a call from Air Force One president shortly after noon, about three hours after Trump announced his dismissal via Twitter.
“What is most important is to ensure a fair and calm transition during this time for the country to continue to face important policies and national security challenges”, Tillersson says.
He adds that he delegates all responsibilities to his deputy.
Addressing other government employees, Tillerson says: “We all received the same official oath.
“We are all linked to common commitment, to support and protect the constitution.
We remain steadfast here in Washington and positions around the world.
Tillerson has described diplomatic achievements during his tenure.
