KFOR's role remains unchanged, in providing a secure environment and freedom of movement.

So said Colonel Nick Ducich, who took over KFOR command at Bondsteel. Following the Turkish Multinational Group's command ceremony, by Colonel Michael Spraggins, Colonel Nick Ducich of California, who just took over the new post, said this mission is of particular importance to him, since he is the first US officer of Serbian descent to command the multinational battle group-indition.

“KFOR's role remains unchanged, contributing to freedom of movement and a safe environment. We will continue to maintain no partiality, until we work to support the development of a stable Kosovo, for all interested parties in the region. This mission has special personal significance for me. I am the first American officer of Serbian descent to command the Multinational Battle-East Group. I am privileged to serve here and give my greatest commitment, for a safe environment for all the people of Kosovo”, Ducich said.

While questioned about KFOR's role, in the event of activism and arrests by the Special Court, he said they are not part of the political processes, but will be ready, to respond to any possible turmoil.

We will not be part of this political process. We will be willing to respond to any turmoil, which will contribute to preserving calm and stability”, he said.

And outgoing commander Michael Spraggins said he is happy to be carrying out his mission, but also upset that he is leaving Kosovo.

“Today I am speaking to them with joy and frustration at the same time. The joy is that me and my team under KFOR 21 will soon be home with our families and friends, knowing we had a successful rotation. We are also happy that our mission was successful and that it was marked with peace and security for all of Kosovo's people. I get upset because it's time to say goodbye to a lot of new friends and also a place and people that I already loved deeply. I've learned a lot about this fascinating place and the wonderful people with different backgrounds and ethnicity, and now I just feel a deep connection and care”, he said.

While he said he is proud of the work he has done within KFOR.

“I am proud of the work my team has done under KFOR 23. In addition to our work with our NATO allies and partners, we have developed excellent relations and made excellent training with the KSF and the Kosovo Police. I am proud of the diversity these agencies have attended, not only ethnically, but also in terms of women's integration into their organisations. These security organisations demonstrate a strong commitment to successfully carry out their missions, but also to embrace diversity and equality in a way that is highly commendable. I hope our friends and partners at KSF and KK continue their success in their mission, important here in Kosovo”, he said.

And KFOR deputy commander Janos Csombok said this change of command shows the United States' dedication as a contributor to KFOR maneuvering.

This change of command shows the continuation of leadership and dedication to a long and distinguished heritage of the United States as a major contributor to KFOR maneuvering. The US is continuing to support the KFOR mission, in many leading tasks and other staff officers throughout the range of KFOR capabilities. Among all the activities that brilliant soldiers have led or been involved here are some of the main points and achievements of BSHKL soldiers. The leadership, participation and co-operative contribution to the synchronized patrols within the Serbian armed forces, on the administrative border line. The patrols you have performed have opened the way for future progress in this highly sensitive area. Municipal elections in October called for KFOR's commitment. B The SHCL has conducted a successful operation to ensure its quiet and secure environment for fair elections. A perfect example of your deep commitment to the mission and the people of Kosovo”, said a
