According to the Kosovo Police in 2017, there were 27 murders, while in 2016, a less murder, 26.
Some cases of murder are well known, while some of the cases are under investigation, and police in co-operation with the Prosecution treat them with great seriousness.
If we refer to statistics concerning the detection of cases of homicides for years, especially since 2008, Kosovo Police have reached the level of detection of homicide cases, over 75% (an exact 77.85% of cases have been discovered by authorities)”.
According to the Kosovo Police, illegal possession has even caused more cases of murder to occur.
Kosovo's “Police based on legal competencies, during the implementation of operational-ethimore tasks, during 2016, confiscated 1187 weapons and 22207 pieces of ammunition of different kinds, while in 2017 it confiscated 1132 weapons and 15749 pieces of ammunition of various types”.
In a response given to the Tribuna Channel, Special Prosecutor Ekrem Lutfiu's spokesman indicates that in the last three years, 158 cases of homicide have been resolved, while 268 persons have been involved in these murders.
“Of these cases, 120 people have been convicted at the Court's verdict, 11 have been released, while six persons have denied the indictment”.
The year when the prosecution was mostly resolved, it was 2015. During this period 67 cases have been resolved, including 119 persons. Guiltys for murder that year have been declared 56 people.
