The State Election Commission has approved Montenegrin presidential candidates from three political forces by Tuesday. While warning of participation in the presidential elections, so has the opposition candidate, who is backed by the majority of opposition parties, including the Democratic Front, the Democrats of Montenegro, the Socialist People's Party and the URA Civic Movement.

The candidate of Montenegro's Democratic Party of Socialists for president will be its leader, Milo Djukanovic, who has even earlier been in a mandate has been chairman of Montenegro.

My decision is an expression of responsibility to what Montenegro's obligations and achievements are. My personal orientation has been different, but when you deal with the work I do for more than a quarter of a century, then you have party, personal and social obligations”, Djukanovic said, following the PDS Central Council meeting.

The candidates' proposals for Montenegrin chairman are submitted to the State Election Commission until March 26th 2018.

Montenegro's president is elected by direct and secret voting, with a five-year term.

These are the seventh presidential elections during the multiparty system in Montenegro since 1990. Montenegro's president from 2003 is Filip Vujanovic, who has exercised this post for three consecutive mandates. / VoA
