US President Donald Trump has said on Tuesday that the US government's partial closure will continue until its demand for funds to build the wall between the United States and Mexico is met.
The U.S. government has been provisionally closed Saturday and there is still no sign of efforts to open it, due to disagreements in funds demanded by President Trump for the wall with Mexico.
I can't tell when the government will open up”, Trump said at a video conference with American troops serving outside the US.
I can tell you, it won't open until we have a wall, stop, you can call it whatever you want. I'll call it what they want, but it'll be the same thing. It's stopping people from entering this country. If we don't have it, then the Government won't open”, he added.
Funds for almost a quarter of federal programmes, including law departments, National Security and Agriculture, will expire at midnight Friday.
So if no agreement is reached, government closure could continue in the coming year.
Trump is insisting on funds around the wall as this issue has been among his most vocal promises in the campaign for presidential elections.
The Democrats on the other hand strongly oppose such a project.
