A Dutch court has rejected the request of a self-called “positive security” to cut its age for 20 years, in a case that took the world's attention, writes Periscope.
Last month, Emile Ratelband asked the court in Arnhem to formally change his birth date to become 49, not 69 years old. He said officials had not seen his emotional condition and that he was causing him problems in finding work and finding love.
He said he did not feel like 69 years old and that his request was consistent with other forms of personal transformation that receive admission around the world, such as the right to change the name or gender.
The court today said: “Z. Ratelband is free to feel 20 years younger than real age and to behave in that form. But cutting the age legally would cause us to erase 20 years from the registry of births, deaths, marriages and registered relationships. This would have undesirable legal and social implications.” /Periscopi
