This data has been made public during today, where the Centre for Politics and Avoim and the Association Educators Network (PEN) in co-operation with the National Safety and Health Council have published the report .
The report was presented by Milaim Morina, from the Centre for Politics and Avohim, who said this year at their workplace that 22 people have lost their lives.
He has suggested that Kosovo is the country with the highest death rate of 100,000 employees, who, according to him, 6.3 employees in 100,000.
There's also 104, two days ago, a worker's life, 24 deaths, 22 being caused by workplace accidents, and two deaths are due to natural causes. We've made a comparison to what accidents are like in workplaces, we've taken as a sample compared to Croatia, which has 13 thousand and 200 injured and 18 deaths, Albania has 154 injured and 19 deaths, Serbia has 84 serious injuries and 20 deaths, Serbia's statistics are July after July that we haven't been able to get another clue. Slovenia 9 thousand and 270 serious injuries and 17 deaths, while Macedonia has 134 injuries and 24 deaths”, he indicated report data”, he said.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the National Safety and Health Council, Cherkin Dukoli, has presented the work report for 2018.
He said that from their visits to businesses, they have concluded that the situation in the public sector is slightly better with regard to security and health at work. However, he has noted that good steps are also being made in the private sector as far as safety and health are concerned.
“We have noted that the current or human capacities of the labour Inspectorate are not enough to carry out inspection visits to all those companies throughout the country's territory and we have recommended increasing the number of inspectors. This has taken its course and we expect 10 additional job inspectors in 2019. Also, we have found that health and security still remains a challenge in our country, despite the efforts companies are making, despite the hard work the Labour Inspectorate is doing, and we still have a high number of work deaths”, he said.
In contrast, Labour Chief Inspector Basri Ibrahimi has stated that there is a awareness of workers reporting cases of injury at the workplace.
Ibrahim has declared that the security situation is not good, but according to him it takes better co-operation of all acts of law.
The number of accidents presented and reported is much higher than last year, but it's not like there was more or at least I can't prove there were more accidents than last year. However, reporting this year is extremely high, and it is reported that it is an improvement in general social awareness, as well as of workers and employers because even minor scratches are reported, while early years are reported only serious injuries. So this is a qualitative improvement, which I'm including this case to make the comparison and reason with this year we've had a thousand and 500 complaints, a thousand and 438 complaints for just 11 months, this shows a rise in the awareness of the worker”, he said.
The report published today by the Centre for Politics and Avokim and the Co-operative Educators Network (PEN) in collaboration with the National Security and Health Council is part of the “project. The rule of the Law-Promovation of Workers' Rights” implemented by the Centre for Politics and Avoim(QPA) and financed by Olof Palme International Center (OPC).
