Trade and Industry Minister Andrew Shala last Tuesday proposed to the government cabinet the deployment of a 10 per cent measure for some products produced in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
But that measure rules out international brand products produced in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, two states that have not yet recognised the state of Kosovo.
In the municipality of the Oda of Afarism of Kosovo, whose officials today have met with the bakers' sector, it is said that the fluctuation of the price of bread in the market is one of the problems of bakers.
But whether the price of bread will increase after the 10 per cent measure is set for the import of products from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina has told KALLXO.com Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Andrew Shala has said there will be no increase in the price of wheat, even though the largest import is from Serbia.
I don't think there will be an increase in the price of products and wheat as well as because the first material can be obtained in other countries by businessmen and businessmen. Serbia is not the only place we should get the wheat”, Shala has said for callo.com.
Shala has also said they will try to reduce the import of large quantity of wheat from Serbia to get it from other countries.
“I believe in the understanding of businesses to see alternatives other than Serbia that they themselves do not allow the price to rise for their citizens”, Shala said.
Kosovo Economic Ode Chairman Berat Rukiqi has said that there will be no price hikes even after taxing 10 per cent because businesses would risk positioning in the market.
Rukiqi has said that price hikes will not take place because all products, imported by Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, are replaceable products.
There's always the possibility that this speculative element of the market is introduced, there is price movement, but this is in competition. I'm telling you, it's a problem to move prices because they're in danger of being in the market. The second reason I can say that there can't be price moves is the current stock. I guess some of the stocks are enough for a while and actually don't directly affect the offer”, Rukiqi said.
While the possibility of raising grain prices, specifically wheat, is not excluded from Rukiqi because this product is largely imported from Serbia.
“Knowing the variety of products that are in Kosovo, I don't see much potential for any major price hikes, but it's a matter of raw materials. Kosovo is known to have no raw materials and import them. For example, the wheat case that is imported largely from Serbia and some products in the construction sector, if the measure is also valid with the first measure can also have impacts on prices in Kosovo”, Rukiqi has declared.
Setting this move has also prompted reactions from the European Union.
EU spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic has said the move is a violation of CEFTA's obligations.
“These decisions are a clear violation of Kosovo's obligations under CEFTA. The EU expects Kosovo, which currently heads CEFTA to fully fulfil its obligations and revote that move”, Kocijanci has declared.
Even the mayor of the Bujanoc municipality, Shaip Kamberi, has asked the Kosovo government to exclude Albanian producers from the 10 per cent move for Serbian goods.
After the Government of the Republic of Kosovo's decision to impose safeguard clauses on products coming from Serbia, the mayor of the Bujanoc municipality, calls for the prime minister and Government of the Republic of Kosovo, exemption from these measures of producers and products that are exported to Kosovo from the Presevo Valley.”, he has written in his official Facebook profile.
