Minister of Trade and Industry Andrew Shala has signed co-operation agreements with the International Finance Corporation IFC, part of the World Bank Group represented by Thomas Lubeck, Regional Director for South Eastern Europe (IFC) and Riccardo Serry, director of the Economic and Political Section near the European Union Office in Kosovo.
Shala stressed that the Ministry of Trade and Industry highs the work and partnership of the IFC, part of the World Bank Group.
I want to confirm once again our interest and willingness to continue in the future. In this case, I also thank the European Union Office in Kosovo as one of the most active donors in Kosovo and one of our most important partners in the journey of Kosovo into regional and European integration”, Shala said.
Shala said that “The Project on Building Investment Policy in the Western Balkans “is a regional project that covers Western Balkan countries and aims to assist the Government of Kosovo in its efforts to improve regulatory infrastructure for improving the further investment climate, as well as harmonising regional investment policies with European standards, which will help the countries of this region, including Kosovo, to advance further into the integration process in the European Union.
“We during our daily meetings with foreign and local investors, are seeing the number of investors interested in investing in Kosovo and MTI increasing with the help of this new project is aiming to improve its legal and regulatory infrastructure to make Kosovo an attractive place for foreign investors. Likewise, we aim to improve the investment climate for businesses, harmonise our investment policies with European standards and serve investors more efficiently”, the minister said.
This project will include these activities: Development and establishment of a Regional Agency for Reform in terms of foreign investment promotion policies, becoming formalisation/officialisation of this Regional Agency for Reform through proper implementing instruments; To implement and monitor reforms related to foreign investments in Western Balkan countries (ËB6) under the Regional Agency for Reform in Foreign Investment; Kosovo's promotion and Western Balkan countries (ËB6) as a unique investment destination.
