Thaci's lawyer reacts to the special that introduced the “standard of fair trial”: Any complaints of indictees have been rejected by Appeals

Luka Misetic, the lawyer of former Kosovo president Hashim Thaci, has reacted to the Special Court shortly after it introduced “standards of fair judgment during the” trial processes at this court in The Hague.
The lawyer wrote in a post in Facebook that the Special Court Appeal has rejected any request of former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders who are being held in custody there on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The “Context should be taken into account during assessing the effectiveness of the law for complaint over violations of fair standards. The accused in the war crimes case, Thaci et al. have initiated 37 intermediate complaints, and each of them has been rejected by the Appeals panel”, Misetic wrote.
In the Special Court spokesman Michael Doyle's statement, this court reportedly guarantees “rights to a fair trial for the accused, in line with internationally recognised standards”.
The “judges consistently implement international conventions mentioned in the Constitution of Kosovo, including the European Convention on Human Rights and its judicial practice. If a defendant thinks the rules are not being implemented properly, he can appeal decisions to a separate panel of independent judges. The defendants could also submit a request for protection of legitimacy before the Supreme Court and could address the Constitutional Court Chamber if they think their individual human rights were violated. This system reflects the protection of human rights existing before other courts in Kosovo. The defendants have exploited these legal means and, in a number of cases, have successfully done so”, the spokesman says./ Periscope.
