Kosovo “saw expansion progress”, EP urges acceleration of law-ruled reforms, fundamental freedoms and the fight against corruption

The European Parliament has praised enlargement for the five Western Balkan countries, disfellowshipped Serbia.
For Kosovo and Northern Macedonia, Eurodeputs say they have lacked progress since the previous report following the adoption of new reports.
In a report adopted by 412 pro, 174 against and 58 abstentions, Eurodeputes “underestimate Kosovo's continued commitment to its EU membership application”, but express concern for its inability to form a legislature and functional government for more than a year”.
Eurodeputs demand that the Kosovo government accelerate EU-related reforms, especially in the areas of rule of law, fundamental freedoms and the fight against corruption.
The text also stresses that normalising relations with Serbia and implementing the Brussels and Ohrid agreements remain essential for Kosovo's EU membership ambitions.
Meanwhile, Eurodeputs said Montenegro intends to become EU member by 2028, while Albania wants to complete membership negotiations by 2027
Political leaders in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Eurodeputs call on them to end political impasses and renew their commitment to EU membership./ Periscope.
