The French magazine asks Thaci: Is EU integration preventing you from being Muslims?

The president of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, in an interview for the French magazine Le Point, has talked about the frozen conflict between Kosovo and Serbia, and efforts towards a final solution that would ensure the way towards European integration for both countries.

The French newspaper has asked Thaci if it poses a problem for Kosovo's EU integration, the fact that the population is a Muslim majority.

Most point to the fact that Kosovo is dominated by Muslims, is this causing gap for the accession process” asked Thaci.

But the European Union is not a country of Christian nations. Our religious identity is a product of history. Although our country is dominated by the Muslim population, we are not a Muslim state. Pristina's cathedral is the largest in the region. I also have Christians and Muslims in my family. We should not allow prejudice to corrupt reality. For 20 years we've been fighting jihadists. We have been very careful during the struggle for independence not to leave foreign fighters who had religious motives to fight with in against Serbia. We don't want to pollute the legitimacy of our war. We are today the front line for the fight against Daesh and Al Qaedas”, has been answered by President Thaci for the French newspaper Le Point.
