The number of victims, members of Afghanistan's security force, has risen to about 29,000 by 2015. So has made it known, Afghan President Ashraf Ghan, revealing a figure far greater than had been disclosed earlier by authorities.
Ghan said that since 2015, when Afghan forces and police claimed responsibility for the country's security following partial withdrawal from NATO troops, “28,529 security members lost their lives for our freedom”.
58 Americans were killed in the same period, he added.
“I would like to welcome the patriotism of the Afghan forces, each of those who volunteered”, Ghan said.
The Afghan government had previously offered figures of incidents of confrontation between militants and Afghan forces, but it has never been known that the number of victims could be so large.
In an incident last year, after an attack by Taliban in the province of Balkh, 130 security members had remained dead.
The previous figures that were declared by authorities were about 5,000 victims and about 15,000 thousand injured.
