While Vuciq said the situation created in northern Kosovo after the “intervention of the Kosovo Police” would be part of the discussion with Putin, Kremlin stressed that the visit was scheduled months ago and that visit was not directly linked to tensions in the Balkans.
Vuciq visited Russia in May this year when Russia celebrated “Victory Day”.
Russian mediam “Russia Today” writes that last Saturday dozens of Kosovo troops had entered a Serb enclave in northern Kosovo, taking control of several industrial sites.
This Pristina intervention, according to this medium, had violated agreements reached between Pristina and Belgrade.
Serbia had reacted by putting the army in a state of war.
According to Serbian media analyst Aleksandar Pavic, the situation has already calmed down, but not even the potential for violence existing in those territories.
According to this analyst Vuciq, there is little support in Serbia to reconcile with Kosovo for any possible agreement.
Russia has also made it clear to Vuciqi that it will not support any possible agreement with Kosovo if the agreement does not have the support of the Serbian people.
Serbia will have internal divisions, because most Serbian opinion is against split”, Pavic said.
“This is a very sensitive issue both for the Serbian president and for Russian President”, he said, sends in Telegrafi.
Also, the analyst added that if Kosovo is recognised as a sovereign state from Serbia, the possible result would be for Kosovo to become part of Albania, a NATO member and Moscow views NATO as an enemy of Russia.
Pavel Kandel, an expert on ethnic conflicts at the Russian Academy of Sciences Institute, said tensions are the product of weakening the positions of the two leaders.
“Thaci, whose position in Kosovo has weakened, really had to show how harsh he is, how he is able to control the situation there and can even travel to northern Kosovo along with armed forces. The same is true of Vuchy and his army gathering. He should also show himself to be a tough leader” he told “Russia Today”.
Candel said Vuciq is willing to accept Kosovo if Serbia enters the EU.
“I believe Vuciq will be willing to recognise Kosovo's independence in exchange for Serbia's EU membership. But Albanians [in Kosovo] are not willing to accept any compromise to save Vuciq's face”, he concluded.
