The evidence is convincing: The secret services of the Netherlands, Great Britain, and Switzerland mention names, and for some of them the degree to the service of Russian agents standing behind the recent wave of cyberattacks. Americans, Canadians, Danish and Australians also complain of attacks by Russian internet pirates. Even if complaints against Moscow at first seem to be made in agreement: nobody suspects that first of all Russian agents are constantly attacking Western institutions, parties, enterprises and sports organisations. Moscow really opposes that. But it does so mechanically, like a annoying exercise, often with a cynical subton.

The West responds with countermass. It will invest more money in the ongoing cyberwar. At the same time, many wonder what is behind this long - forgotten aggressive behavior of the Kremlin? What is Moscow's goal? Because the anchor of sanctions and countersanctions that spin faster and faster goes nowhere. In the end, what they lose is both. Petersburg's dialogue to approach civil societies on both sides, which begins in a few days, has less and less meaning in the context of rising tension between the West and the East. Why talk to each other when the basic political will is finally lacking for increased co-operation?

So the West continues to speculate about what lies behind Russian brutality. What is striking: the latest attacks were carried out primarily by the Russian Military Secret Service GRU. And what is also obvious to you: how the spies acted, what traces they left, that they even allowed themselves to be caught in hand.

Moscow is not impressed by Western protests. This reminds you of the cold war. But even then there was more or less a basic belief in the other side. Such faith is now completely ruined. When this started it's hard to determine. Efforts to start a new start in relations with Moscow have failed. President Trump's statements to improve the report with Moscow failed in Congress resistance. Meanwhile politicians in the East and West talk more about each other than about each other.

Is this about money? In the face of the latest attacks by Russia, NATO countries have increased their defence spending. President Putin had actually declared that he would bring back the defence budget for 2019. It needs money to promote poor economic growth. His generals will not rejoice. And it's already speculated that for this reason, the latest cyber attacks were undertaken by the Russian Secret Service GRU. Because rising tensions with the opponent are always good for the defence budget. Others claim Washington behaves this way because Washington has already decided to drastically toughen sanctions in late November. Moscow thus lacks the incentives for better behavior.

Whatever lies behind Russia's new aggression: At one time the Kremlin will be forced back out. Better relations are in the interests of both Russia and the West. Even an alliance with China is not a real alternative to partnership with the West. Because Beijing is a cold calculator
