On the eve of forming the military, Kosovo has received NATO support. The latter requires that all Allies and minorities consult during this process.
The three bills needed for converting KSF into the military have been approved by majority on Kosovo's Security Force. Bills to be sent to Kosovo parliament soon
At this stage NATO does not reject such a process.
Any initiative to change KSF's mandate is good to consult fully with all communities in Kosovo and with NATO allies”, said a NATO response to BIRN.
NATO is convinced that KSF is a professional force and source of stability in the region, until it emphasises that the Alliance will remain committed to preserving security and stability in the country through KFOR.
Last year, institutions in Kosovo failed to form the army through constitutional changes, as it requires the vote of 2/3 of all MPs and 2/3 of 20 non-Albanian deputies. Serbian MPs in Kosovo who have 10 out of 20 seats reserved in the Assembly have consistently blocked the initiative for converting KSF into the military.
