Prince Vidi's goodbye
Prince Wilhelm Vidi, former Prince of Albania, arrived last night in Ancona and headed for Vienna.
Here is the text he has addressed to Albanians before leaving Durres:
Sub-Albanian!
When your delegates came to offer me the crown of Albania, I confidently responded to the call of a noble and cavalry people who asked me to help with the work of national rebirth.
I have come to you with the most earnest desire to help you in this patriotic task. You have seen, from the beginning, the dedication of all my efforts to re-organize the country, eager to enable you a good administration and justice for all.
Bad events, however, came to prevent our collective work. Indeed, some minds, blinded by passion, did not understand the purpose of reforms, and did not want to build faith in a newborn government.
In addition, the war that has just erupted in Europe has further complicated our situation. So I thought, not to leave behind the work I want to devote my power and life to, it would be useful for me to go to the West for some time. But you must know, that from far and near, I will have only one opinion, to work for the prosperity of our Albanian noble and cavalry country.
During my absence, the international control commission, the envoy of Europe who established our homeland, will lead the government. ”
