The pro-torture, pro-torture extreme right populist has been elected Brazil's new president after a drama filled with a deeply divisive spirit in the country with the world's fourth largest democracy, writes The Guardian, followed in Albanian Periscopi.
Jair Bolsonaro, 63, who built his campaign, pledged to root out corruption, crime and alleged communist threat, secured 55.1 per cent of the vote, election authorities said Sunday.
His left rival, Fernando Haddad, secured only 44.8 percent of the vote.
In a video presentation from his home in Rio de Janeiro, Bolsonaro thanked God and vowed to root out corruption from Brazil.
He is known for his praise of the evil dictator, Augusto Pinochet, and also the support of torture. He has also demanded that his political officers be killed.
Bolsonaro speaks with homesickness about the military dictatorship of the years 64-85 and has promised to fill the government with current and past military leaders.
He's been a Congressman since 1991. He was severely attacked by political opponents for his attacks on women, blacks, gays, foreigners, and indigenous communities for which he was also indicted and fined.
He had told a colleague at the congress that she was worth raping. A month before the first election round, Bolsonaro had escaped a attempted assassination. He campaigned from the hospital bed.
Here are some of the most scandalous statements:
“I'd be able to love my son if he was gay. I won't be a hypocrite. I'd rather die in an accident than hang out with another man with a mustache. ”
I won't fight or discriminate [the women], but if I see two men kissing in the street, I'll hit him. ”
We Brazilians don't like homosexuals. ”
Nothing ever changes in this country by voting. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Unfortunately, things will only change if a civil war breaks out and we do the job that the military regime didn't do. Kill some 30,000... kill them! If a little innocent dies, it's bad. ”
I am in favor of dictatorship... we will never solve national problems with this irresponsible democracy. ”
I'm in favor of torture. ”
Are we obliged to give those bastards a good life? They spend their entire lives fucking us and those of us who work have to give them good conditions in prison. Let's fuck Mom, period. That's it, damn it! ”
I have five kids. Four of them are boys, and for the fifth, I had a moment of weakness and my daughter came out. ”
There's no risk of my children dating black or gay. They raised them well.” /Periscopi
