The president of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, for years in spite of the leadership position in which the Kosovo Security Force was strongly promised to return the Kosovo Armed Forces to Kosovo.
The year 2017 was already closed without a breakthrough that Thaci and all of the country's politicians expressed strongly that he would end this year.
Regarding this issue, President Thaci has said the issue of establishing the Kosovo Armed Forces is in the final phase.
Thaci has also reiterated his conviction regarding the demarcation of the border line with Montenegro, adding that it is correct and confirmed by several local and international commissions.
According to Thaci, Kosovo- Serbia is the only and irreplaceable mechanism for resolving problems within the state of Kosovo.
The following is your full interview:
Indexline: The Kosovo Assembly MPs' initiative has been sharply criticised by Kosovo strategic partners. Do you support this initiative of MPs?
Hashim Thaci: The initiative of about 50 Kosovo Republic of Parliament deputies is an option, but it is definitely not fleeing from justice. That should be clear. I've read the draft MP request. It is not a requirement that challenges justice or endangers it, but it is an alternative that enables the treatment of all war crimes in Kosovo. This has been the case with all the countries of the former Yugoslavia, both in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. MPs are the people's elected, and their initiative is constitutional, legal and orderly. We have had such initiatives in the past. Therefore, any decision of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo I respect, I will pledge and sign. Since 2015, I have assessed historical injustice the creation of the Special Court. As if it were an initiative against justice, the first would be against me.
Indexline: One of the most frequent topics discussed by politics is the transformation of KSF into FAK, what do you think, why isn't this transformation going on, where it stays the obstacle?
Hashim Thaci: Among the top priorities in this year that we are leaving, it has been the continuation of work on establishing the Kosovo Armed Forces. We are now almost in the final phase of our efforts to ensure the support of the FAK's founding process through constitutional changes. We are doing this and will do it in full co-ordination with NATO and other strategic partners. Kosovo during 2018 will have its own defence capacities - a modern army that will contribute to peace and stability in the region and throughout the world.
Indexline: There has been and there is still a lot of noise as to the demarcation agreement with Montenegro, this deal that is not being voted in the Parliament and Kosovars have remained isolated, what is the solution to you?
Hashim Thaci: The agreement for border demarcation with Montenegro is fair, accurate, confirmed by several local and international commissions and strongly supported by Kosovo strategic partners, the US and the European Union. The EU's condition for Kosovo has been unfair, but not to ratify this agreement from the Kosovo Assembly is unwarranted. Therefore, the month of January is the last moment for us to find a consensus and ratify this agreement. Only then do we end the unjust isolation of citizens of the Republic of Kosovo.
Indexline: Next year will also be the year of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, will this difficult decision in this process?
Hashim Thaci: The dialogue has no alternative and is the only and irreplaceable mechanism for solving problems within our country, but also for our neighboring states. Now we are ready to continue the final phase of this process, which will continue to be mediated by the EU and strongly supported by the US. Of course, this final phase will not be easy. To that end, I have started formal and informal consultation with political parties and civil society in order to establish a Unity Group to ensure all involvement in the process. Kosovo has won every time we are united and our citizens have supported us.
