Northern Serbs condition opening bridge with establishment of concrete barrier

The establishment of a concrete barrier near the Ibër Bridge is the condition Serbs have decided to resume the interrupted work on revising the bridge. Taking as a pretext the lack of security in the north, local governance and the so-called Office for Kosovo in the Government of Serbia have demanded increased security measures, writes [...]
This is also identified in this office's report from October of last year, where apart from KFOR and the Kosovo Police, Serbs have also sought EULEX involvement, as well as the construction of a concrete barrier until the completion of the works. Neither has the functioning of the Mitrovica-based EULEX Police Unit sufficed them.
In the Government of Kosovo, they have not commented on the demands of the northern ones, saying the issue of the bridge's revising will be addressed within Brussels' dialogue. But the resumption of negotiations after more than a year was interrupted following the assassination of prominent politician Oliver Ivanovic last week.
A report by the Serbian Office for Kosovo speaks of meetings held with internationals in the function of resolving the security issue in the surrounding area of the bridge as preconditions for allowing work to continue.
