Europeans have barely succeeded in a great year of choice in 2017. But such a thing will follow the continent in 2018. Several powerful European politicians will be in operation in this new year of 2018, reports “Politico”, Periscopi broadcast. Vladimir Putin of Russia and Victor Urban [...]

Several powerful European politicians will be in operation in this new year of 2018, reports “Politico”, Periscopi broadcast. Russia's Vladimir Putin and Hungary's Victor Urban will try to get another mandate to lead their respective states, while Silvio Berlusconi's party has been strongly restored.

“Yeah. LITICO” has published the election agenda that will take place this year.

Czech presidential elections will take place on 12-13 January.

Current President Milos Zaman will try to get another mandate to lead the Czech state. If Zaman is re-elected again it will be very difficult for the EU to control the issue of migration and weapons control.

Zaman could easily win the first round of voting (on 12-13 January), he could face a complicated run-off unless he wins the general majority. This vote will be held January 26th-27th. Zaman's most difficult challenger is Jiri Drahos, former president of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

The general Italian elections will be held on March 4th 2018.

Italy will elect new members in both parliament chambers in March, which will also be the first time a controversial new electoral law will be used.

The law, which favours coalitions on individual parties, was strongly rejected by the populist 5Star movement, which refuses to make alliances with traditional parties.

Polls show the 5Star Movement could emerge as the largest single party, while the ruling Democratic Party (PD) has marked a decline during a political struggle.

But electoral experts warn that if polls are accurate, the new system will not be able to produce a clear winner, meaning that political talks will be needed in the old-style to avoid a stalemate.

Former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has made a comeback in this election cycle to lead his centre-right force, Forza Italy. He fell from power following charges of tax fraud in 2013.

The presidential election in Russia will be held on March 18th 2018.

Vladimir Putin will try to get another mandate from the Russian leader. He is ready to round up the ruling position for nearly 18 years as president, but also as prime minister.

Parliamentary elections in Hungary will take place in the spring of 2018.

The exact date of elections has not yet been decided, but one thing is already clear: Prime Minister Victor Orbán's populist Party of Fideszi has a major advantage over its rivals. The party hopes to regain the majority of its two-thirds in parliament, needed to make constitutional changes after losing this so-called super majority in the 2015 elections.

The general elections in Sweden will be held on September 9th 2018.

Social Democrat Stefan Lovfen hopes to win another mandate, where polls have placed it as the favourite. But his Green Party coalition partners have been standing by the risk, if not below, the 4 per cent threshold for entry into Rixdag (parliament) in recent polls. If the Greens do not secure the threshold for entry into parliament, the Social Democrats may need a new partner. On the other hand, the centre-right Alliance, led by conservative fashioners, could get a chance to govern.

Local Elections in Poland

About a year before local elections are held, the ruling Justice and Law Party ( The PiS) has postponed controversial election reforms in parliament's lower house, which the opposition says are designed to help boost the PiS's election prospects.

The PIS says reforms will make the system more transparent. The measures include changing the manner of electing members of the State Election Commission, limiting the mandate of mayors in two, and abolishing the postal vote in local elections./Periscopi/
