Senior Chinese officials announced Thursday that they have agreed with the UN to undertake more sanctions against North Korea following its latest nuclear test, prompting more dialogue to resolve the crisis on the Korean peninsula.
“In view of the new developments on the Korean Peninsula, China agrees that the UN Security Council should take a further response and take the necessary measures”, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said, without specifically pardoning what necessary measures, reported “Reuters”, Periscope broadcasts.
Any new action taken by the international community... must serve the goal of curbing North Korea's nuclear and missile programmes, while at the same time be favourable for the resumption of dialogue and consultations”, he said.
North Korea said it would respond to any UN sanctions and US pressure with “powerful controversial measures”, accusing the US of aiming to start a war./Periscopi/
