For many Kosovo citizens unbelievable the fact that the customs in the country circulates in Kosovo police vehicles. Kosovo police are estimated to be the most reliable institution in the country, but within the year its officials were caught on two occasions transporting drugs in their cars.
Mitrovica's prosecution is investigating a network of Kosovo police officers who were detained a few weeks ago with 8kg of marijuana in northern Mitrovica.
KA LLXO.com has provided details from the Mitrovica prosecution file describing police actions and the way they accompanied and conveyed the drug shipment to northern Mitrovica.
In the secured document, which holds the number 68/2017, drafted by the heavy crimes prosecutor, Zeynep Kela, the actions of police officer Adnan Gerxhaliu are described in conveying the vehicle in which the amount of drugs was circulated.
According to prosecutor Keleya's file dated 13,07,2017, police officers Adnan Grerjaliu and Shemsedin Geci along with third person Valon Malaj were co-ordinated to send drugs from Skenderaj to northern Mitrovica.
The group according to the prosecution file was photographed in every step by investigators who were attending the case.
The “Group had met before a coffee shop in Skenderaj and had learned about the details of the shipment's path”, described in the file.
A Golf 2 car owned by Officer Gerjaliu would lead the column to pave the way behind it, another car would come and the last one would be moving the Golf 4 car run by police Shemsedin Geci”, said the prosecution file.
The same claims that during the journey the group was re-torn in Mitrovica on Bislim Baygora Street.
From there Grirjaliu along with a person from Albania had continued in northern Mitrovica”, the prosecution file reported. Albanian citizens, according to prosecutorial claims, had called Valon Malia and had asked her to leave for the north as the road was free.
The prosecution claims it has been monitoring the move of the Golf 2 car during its drive to the southern part of Mitrovica.
Police officers in question were arrested during police and IPK operations, while the same are held in custody with the Mitrovica court ruling. In the court's processes, it says they have not accepted actions by being called to innocence. Adnan Gerxhaliu's lawyer, Jtula Berisha, has told him KALLXO.com that they have already filed a complaint at the Court of Appeals to reject the detention measure against his client.
Drugs challenge police credibility
Kosovo police are estimated among the most reliable institutions in the Republic of Kosovo, but drug scandals have consistently damaged the image of this institution.
In still unclear circumstances in April 2009, some 40kg of heroin has been stolen by Kosovo police evidence depots. The still undiscovered case has become one of the biggest criticisms of Kosovo police. Other police officials have been involved in drug connections. Last year police arrested police from Peja, Gazmend Dobruna, under suspicion of transporting marijuana.
According to the indictment filed by Pristina prosecutor Gazmend Dobruna, Aziz Hamiti's Shaban Halimi on August 2nd last year in the village of Shakovica of Podujevo were detained by members of the Kosovo Police and during the search on the car Gazmend Dobruna led into the trunk was found and seized the amount of narcotics suspected of being the total marijuana of 55 kilograms of 455 grams.
