Diane De Zoysa, 59, says she gave 100,000 pounds to her husband, Priyanne, 26, last year when she made her decision to live with her in Ahungala, in the western south of the country.

Zoysa met with the hotel worker six years earlier when she had visited the country before returning seven months later to crown her.

However, her husband was killed last month after being shot three times at a friend's house, reports the Daily Mail.

Mrs. De Zoysa, who previously worked as a consumer support worker at the Edinburgh City Council, says her husband was killed by men who threatened him with his property.

They thought he was a rich man, having a nice house, a minibus and a tuk-tuk. He paid them, but they wanted more,” Zoysa told the Daily Mail newspaper.

Police investigation into the death of Priya de Zoysa is still under way, according to local media reports.
