The report stresses that the Government of Kosovo, compared to the previous reporting period, has identified more victims and followed and condemned more traffickers.
The government identified 36 victims of trafficking, compared to 28 in 2015<18x1>.
The law enforcement officials have conducted pro-active investigations, including joint investigations with the Labour Inspectorate”, the report noted.
However, it follows, judges have imposed mild penalties for traffickers, and prosecutors have continued to degrade cases of trafficking in smaller crimes.
“Sic was reported over the past five years, Kosovo is a source and destination site for men, women and children subject to sex trafficking and forced labour”.
Traffickers recruit victims with false promises of marriage or job offers in cafes, nightclubs and restaurants”, the report also says.
The US State Department stresses in the report that most victims of sexual trafficking in Kosovo are girls.
