The so-called Islamic State (ISIS) has lost 60 percent of the occupied territory in three years and 80 percent of the revenue is known in a research cabinet study “IHS Markit”, published today.
The territory of “califatites”, self-declared in Iraq and Syria, has passed from 90,000 square kilometers in January 2015 to 36,200 square kilometers in June 2017, this headquarters research centre in London clarified.
The US-led international coalition has been launching air strikes against jihadists since the summer of 2014.
On the ground the battle is being carried out in Iraq by the army and in Syria mainly by Syrian Democratic Forces (FDS), an alliance of Kurdish and Arab fighters against ISIS.
“The SIS is marked by rapid expansion followed by a steady decline. Three years after suicide, it is evident that the California governance project has failed”, notes Columb Strack, a Middle East expert at IHS Markit.
