About 50 out of a total of 180 prisoners serving the sentence in Switzerland's Thorberg prison have been put on strike. Their demands are, to ensure a space, room for intimate contact, to raise wages, and to improve and increase food.
As the newspaper Blick and many other Swiss media wrote, 50 prisoners have been refusing to work since Friday last week. The warden, Thomas Egger, has confirmed the truth of the story.
Prisoner assistance organisation “Reform 91” has expressed understanding about the demands of strikers, broadcast Albinfo.ch. The denial of sexual contact for prisoners is a so-called “white”, a spokesman for the organisation said in question. This is meant to be an invisible method that causes psychic damage to those to whom it is exercised.
Prisoners who are on strike say that privacy rooms require them because they plan to marry their female partners before being imprisoned. In the absence of such a space, they lose age and are injured, losing their family.
The strikers have also sought increase in food rations and improved quality, broadcasts Albinfo.ch. While they have said that even the income they earn from work in this prison is lower than those in other prisons. They pay 320 francs a month, while if they refuse work, they are not paid at all.
