Every November, Flag Day, Isaac Aslan takes the way to the Rence village cemetery in Shtime. He cleans his children's graves out of snow in seven graves. They were massacred 20 years ago by Serbian forces, along with their mother, wife and granddaughter.
Touching the letters, he feels as if he were caressing the boy's face, The Source, who was only 13 years old; Luming, Ejupi, Luliette, Shpend, Jaferri, and the little Antigona, who had just turned 1.
We had three days of fighting in a row, and I went to draw the family. I was with my brother, Musa. At that moment, Serb forces came with tank, targeted us very well, and no one could escape. I've been wounded too”, reports Isaac Aslan.
Veteran and disabled of war, Isaac joined the KLA ranks since the beginning of the war to protect his wife and children. But even though he failed, he again found strength and reason to fight.
The memory for them is great. It's been 20 years, but it's like it happened to me today. Despite the fact that the whole family has been removed from them, I've never been able to practice violence against anyone, kill a child among Serbs”, and Isaac next follows.
Life had to continue. On November 28th 1998, Isaac married, while the KLA soldiers took the new bride.
For Isaac and Kosovo, the Novembers of pain are also symbols of the continuation of life. After 20 years of marriage, his twins came to life in the cold days of November. Today, the 60-year-old veteran calls this miracle a winner of life over death and greater vengeance on the enemy.
“I've updated Ejupi and Luming names. Finally came this gift from God. I've always dreamed of renewing the names of to tell everyone that life goes before”, says Isaac Aslan.
