(2 hours ago)In the face of the uncontrolled spread of fires, the Spanish government declared “a state of emergency with national interest” on Thursday evening until Friday in the Madrid region and the province of Avila near the capital, a move allowing the state to mobilise more resources to strengthen efforts to extinguish fires.
The decision, announced by the Interior Ministry, aims to mobilise and focus resources faster on the fight against fires that have forced the evacuation of about 10,000 people in Madrid, while trusting the military emergency response unit (UME) crisis management.
Earlier Thursday, approximately 3,500 residents of a municipality located 60km west of Madrid left their homes as a precaution because of the spread of a forest fire
In an update via the X platform, they say they sent an urgent alarm to the mobile phones of Aldea del Fresno residents to evacuate the area and move to another municipality in order to avoid the threat of fire that was erupting out of nearby control.
